"Peter Obi Accuses President Tinubu of Misleading Nigerians with Inaccurate Unemployment Statistics"

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of failing to deliver on campaign promises and deliberately misleading Nigerians with inaccurate economic statistics.

Obi recalled a campaign speech made by Tinubu in November 2022 in Delta State, where the then-APC presidential candidate dismissed the use of statistics and criticized Obi’s data-driven approach. Tinubu had stated, “Na statistics we go chop? All I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians.”

Nearly two years into Tinubu’s four-year term, Obi pointed out that Nigeria is now ranked among the hungriest nations globally, with millions of citizens facing food insecurity.

According to Obi, President Tinubu has now turned to using manipulated data—including false unemployment rates, misleading inflation numbers, and questionable GDP rebasing—to project an overly positive image of the country's economic situation, despite worsening conditions on the ground.

“Governance is not rocket science, and it's not a gamble,” Obi emphasized. “It demands sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity, and compassion.”

He concluded his statement with a hopeful message: “A new Nigeria is possible. – PO”
