The Abia State Police Command has successfully reunited several rescued children with their families and arrested two suspects involved in an alleged case of conspiracy and child trafficking.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, and shared with ABN TV, the suspects — identified as 30-year-old Chinasa Ukachukwu and 30-year-old Adaoma Sunday — were apprehended following a report that led to the rescue of three missing children.
According to the police, the case began when Mrs. Chinasa Ukachukwu, a widow of the late Mr. Ukachukwu Ojimadu, reportedly left home on October 4, 2024, with her four children. She told neighbors she was attending a child dedication ceremony in Aba. However, she returned two days later with only one child and failed to explain the disappearance of the other three.
Acting on credible intelligence, detectives from the Abia State Police Command launched an investigation that led to the arrest of her alleged accomplice, Adaoma Sunday. Through coordinated efforts across multiple states, the police recovered the missing children in Aba, Lagos, and Anambra. After verification and medical checks, the children were safely reunited with their families.
DSP Chinaka confirmed that the two suspects have since been charged to court for prosecution. She emphasized that the Command remains committed to fighting crimes involving child trafficking, abduction, and all related offenses within Abia State and beyond.
The Command also provided an update on an earlier operation reported on October 10, 2025, which led to the rescue of eight infants and ten abducted children from various locations. Following investigations, two Lagos residents — Mr. Akinrinola Aliya Ayomide and Mr. Oladapo Olanipekun — were able to positively identify and reclaim their missing children after presenting valid documentation and proof of parentage.
The Abia State Police Command praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies, community members, and the media, noting that timely information from the public played a crucial role in the successful operations.
DSP Chinaka urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or individuals involved in child-related crimes. She reaffirmed the police’s dedication to ensuring the safety and protection of children across the state.
Through these coordinated efforts, the Command continues to strengthen its fight against human trafficking and child exploitation, ensuring justice for affected families and safeguarding the lives of the most vulnerable members of society.
